Girls Alder Valley League held at Eton

Girls Alder Valley League held at Eton

In temperatures that might be expected in mid June the girls had their first fixture of the 2011 track and field season when they competed at Eton in the Alder Valley league.

The high light of the meeting came from Lianne Lafreniere who has only just moved up into the age group.  She won the Under 15 800m knocking over four seconds off her lifetime best recording a time of 2.21.00.

The Under 15 sprint relay team also got their season off to a splendid start winning in 52.8s.  The team of Lizzie Foster, Freya Savage, Jessica Hall and Rebecca Dingemans are now looking forward to attacking the Club record of 52.4s.

There were some very encouraging performances from many of the Under 13 girls.  Harriet Abbott set new personal bests of 7m 11 in the shot and 3m 81 in the long jump in coming second in the A string in both events.  Anna Marlow set a new personal best of 1m 32 in coming second in the A high jump and Paige Furlong Walker was second in the A discus.  The team of Abbott, Sophie O’Neill, Furlong -Walker and Marlow looked promising in winning their heat of the sprint relay.

The Under 17 team was very depleted and there were gaps in the team in all events except the throws. Emily McDermott set new bests in the discus (22m 42), javelin (25m 72) and shot (7m 52) and Charlotte Owens in the Shot and discus.  Imogen Stringer and Emily Spooner put in good performances in the hammer with Stringer setting a new best of 22m 49.

The final result table was Reading, WSE&H, Guildford and Godalming, Aldershot F & D, Basingstoke, Camberley, Hillingdon, Bracknell and Maidenhead.
