Gibbett Hill 10k – Race Report
What comes up must come down. What comes up must come down.
So said Issac Newton. So said Neil Armstrong. So said Icarus. So said the finest of Guildford and Godalming AC runners as they tacked the Gibbet Hill 10k on Wednesday night.
With an off road climb of almost a thousand feet this was not a course for the fearful, but lead by Mountain Marathon aficionados Hunt and Stirk, and the Cross Country might of Gibson and Woodall, such a climb seemed a mere blip on the horizon to victory. At the same time the two mile, knee-splitting concrete descent saw road runners and speed junkies Evans and Myring licking their lips in expectation.
Put together and here was a team that see Everest and the Eiger North Face and only have one thing on their minds – unleash the green fury and run! No matter where the path takes them.
The results for Guildford runners were as follows:
Ben Evans 36.22 (2nd overall)
Marc Woodall 40.20 (13th overall)
Rob Myring 42.08 (23rd overall)
Paul Sanderson 42.34 (27th overall)
Adam Stirk 43.32 (32nd overall)
Laura Bartlett 44.02 (35th overall and 2nd female)
Jenny Hunt 44.12 (37th overall and 3rd female)
Alistair Gibson 44.39 (40th overall)
