The Club’s women’s team competed in their last Southern Women’s League Premier Division match of the season at Basildon. The team was hoping to retain the league title won in 2010 but they were up against league leaders Reading who, after a good afternoon’s competition, came out on top. The scores were Reading 184, G & G 148, Basildon 140 and Ipswich 83.
However two club records were broken during the afternoon. Holly Stroud broke the record she set earlier in the season when she threw her javelin to a winning 37m 04 and the 4 x 400m relay team of Maddy Austin, Yasmin Goater, Rebecca Pritchard and Adelle Tracey sped round four laps of the track to victory and a new best of 3.58.3.
In the senior age group there were clean sweeps for the Gees in the 400m, 800m and 3000m. Maddy Austin won the A 400m in a new best of 57.4 and had a good race against Basildon’s Gemma Kersey to win the 800m in 2.12.2. Rebecca Pritchard won the B 400 and 800 races. Fiona Love and Rosie Hiles won the A and B 3000m and Joanna Klaptocz the A 1500m. Holly Stroud won the A shot put.
The only individual A string winner on the track for the Under 15 girls was Lizzie Foster in the 75m hurdles. The 4x100m relay quartet of Lizzie Foster, Rebecca Dingemans, Jessica Hall and Leo Bell raced to victory over Reading in 52.3s.
The team has finished third in the league with Windsor taking second place. Please see the results section of the website for full results.
Maddy Austin and Matilda Rainsborough both reached the finals of their events at the National Under 17/15 Age Group Championships in Bedford. Austin finished fourth in the 800m and Rainsborough 6th in the 300m. Lizzie Foster and Lianne Lafreniere competed in the Under 15 age group and both girls finished fifth in their heats of the 75m hurdles and 800m respectively.
