The Clubs athletes returned home from the Surrey Multi Events Championships held at Sutton with two gold medals and three silver medals. Throughout the two days of competition the athletes had to endure a constant buffeting from the wind.
Vicky Maguire and Rebecca Pritchard were the only two competitors in the Under 17 heptathlon – seven events over two days adding the javelin and the 800m to the pentathlon events. Vicky came out on top aided by a new best in the shot scoring a total of 3549 points. Rebecca scored 3206 and set new bests in the 200m and javelin and was competing for the first time over the 80m hurdles and with a 4 kg shot.Freya Savage and Lianne Lafreniere came out on top in the Under 15 girls’ pentathlon – a competition in which they had to display their skills in the long jump, shot put, high jump, the 75m hurdles and the 800m. Freya set new lifetime bests in the long jump, 75m hurdles and 800 and scored 2557 points. Lianne amassed a total of 2460 points including bests in the hurdles and shot.
In the Under 15 boys’ event Nicholas Pritchard set new bests in the long jump, shot put and 800m to finish with 1799 points in fifth place. In her first pentathlon twelve year old Pippa Monk set new bests in the long jump, shot put and 800m to finish with 1816 points and a silver medal in the Under 13 Championship. Eleanor Frame finished in fifth place and Megan Hildrew in ninth.
