Alder Valley Cup Girls 18.09.11

Alder Valley Cup – Girls 18th September 2011

Competing in the Alder Valley Cup at Reading the Club’s girl’s team ended their track and field season on an encouraging note.  Having finished third in the Alder Valley league behind Reading and Windsor in August we managed to convincingly beat Windsor but still found Reading too strong.

The Under 17 girls were the most successful group winning their section of the competition. In winning the A 300m in 41.1 Matilda Rainsborough ensured that she will receive the league award for the best performance of the season for three events.  Her performances of 12,8 for the 100m and 26.2 for the200m achieved at earlier matches were not bettered.  The seasons best performance award for the 800m will go to Maddy Austin who finished well clear of the opposition to win in 2.15.3s. She went on to win the B 300m in 41.5s.  Rebecca Pritchard won the B 800m.

Susannah Monk and Georgina Crossman made it another clean sweep for Guildford in the 1500m as did hurdlers Vicky Maguire and Emily Runton in the A and B 80m sprint races. Amy de Beaux notched up another victory in the A high jump with a leap of 1m 55 and set a new lifetime best in the pole vault of 2m 70.  Emily won the B high jump.

In the Under 15 group Lianne Lafreniere ‘s winning 800m time of 2.21.0 in the first league match of the season turned out to be the leagues best of the year as on Sunday she won in 2.21.4.  In the same age group Jess Hall won the A high jump, Cathy Coleman threw her javelin out to a new best of 26m 75, Alice Gibbs set a new best time in the 1500m and Freya Savage set a best of 2m 20 in the pole vault.

The throwers had success in the Under 13 group. Alexandra Woods won the A javelin and will win the performance of the year award with her throw of 24m 31 achieved in June.  Charlotte Cockerill won the A discus with a lifetime best throw of 19m 78.

The final points totals were Reading 289, Guildford and Godalming 253, Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow 167.5, Basingstoke and Mid Hants 147.5 and Aldershot, Farnham and District 143.
