GGAC Track Night Report

14 July 2021

The 7th July saw the inaugural running of the GGAC track night. With 5 races across 800m, the Mile and 5,000m there was something for everyone.

Kicking off with the 800m, Harry Boyd had a storming run to cut the tape in 1:57.5. Sam Hinton and Simon Goldsworthy battled it out to round out the top 3 spots, both recording PB’s in the process.

In the mile, George Dollner took the spoils with a season’s best of 4:22.7.  Tom Foster and James Harvey followed in 2nd and 3rd respectively, again both running PBs over the distance.

The 5,000m (unsurprisingly the most popular with the senior athletes!) saw 16 athletes compete in 2 races.

Sam Beg claimed the fastest run over 12.5 laps, coming agonisingly close to breaking the 16 min barrier, however this was more than made up for with a huge PB.

In all, there were no fewer than 21 PB’s and 9 SB’s set on the night!

A huge thanks to all who helped make the evening happen, from the pacers (John Sanderson, Cameron Payas, Andy Coley-Maud) to the officials and support team (Colin High, Mark Brown, Gavin Megaw, Ian Durrant & Peter Wootton).

Special recognition to Matt McDaniel, with guidance and support from Margaret Nelson & Matt Lythel, who did a great deal of work in the background to get the meet from an idea to reality. We hope that this lays the foundations for bigger events in the future.
